California is one of the most geographically diverse states in the United States with many natural features. Hot springs can be defined as stream of water that is ejected to the surface of the earth from underground. These features usually form naturally without the influence of human beings. Here are facts regarding Hot springs in California.

The temperature of the ejected water is higher than the temperature of air and the human body. During winter, the surrounding land is usually covered in ice but the water in the springs remains hot or warm. Sometimes the water produces hot bubbles which make it to be turbulent. These features are formed through various ways.

Heating of underground water is one way through which these features are formed. Rocks surrounding the rocks heat the water which makes it to expand. The heated water tries to find its way onto the earth surface as it expands. As the water is heated, it increases in pressure, making it to come out on the surface as a hot spring. The water may be ejected high into the air, depending on the amount of pressure it is under.

In most cases, the water just pools at the location it is ejected to the surface. In extreme cases, the water is ejected several feet into the air before it returns down due to gravity. In such a case, it forms a natural water fountain. The water can be ejected at very high pressures that it can be used to produce geothermal energy in some cases.

Several different kinds of minerals are usually contained in the water. According to common belief among some people, this water can cure certain skin diseases like eczema. No evidence exists at the moment to substantiate the claims however.
