Sometimes we need to chill out, relax on the beach and have a holiday where we do nothing. A week or two in a resort is the best way to recharge your batteries and get away from work. However, other times we need something more, something special. A Galapagos and Machu Picchu tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience things most people dream of.

Ecuador and Peru are both special countries with lots to offer us as travelers. They both have rich histories of mysterious cultures set in beautiful landscapes with volcanoes, glaciers, jungles and deserts. Ecuador is on the equator and so has a fantastic climate all year round. Peru is larger and has an incredible array of micro-climates, the weather will depend on where you are in the country.

The park has to enforce strict rules to protect the animals as sometimes they are so inquisitive they will approach visitors. There are lots of islands in the group so it is best to take a cruise on a boat so that you can take in everything on offer. Cruises usually last around a week and visit a range of islands with different things to see on each.

The best way to see them is on a boat cruise. They take in a range of islands and show you all the different species which you will not see anywhere else. Cruises normally last for about a week. Each day there are safaris on different islands and opportunities to swim and snorkel in the teeming seas.

The archipelago is reached by plane from mainland Ecuador, either from Quito or Guayaquil. The visitor numbers are strictly controlled to preserve the pristine environment so using a tour company is the easiest way to make sure you get the best of your trip. Boat sizes vary, some have a few cabins and a few can carry about one hundred passengers.

The other half of the trip will take in majestic Peru. It has the deepest canyons, the highest sand dunes, the most diverse rainforest and a mind boggling number ruins left by many ancient civilizations. The most important of these is Machu Picchu.

It is situated about 120 kilometers from the city of Cusco which acts as the hub for all travelers to the citadel. Cusco has modern hotels, restaurants and museums alongside a way of life which has not changed for hundreds of years. To get to the Inka site most people travel by train from the high Andes down into the cloud forest. This journey is breathtaking as you pass from glaciers to jungle in just a few hours.

A day in Machu Picchu is something you will never forget. It is amazing to arrive early to watch the morning clouds lift to reveal the ruins and surrounding jungle. Guided tours take a couple of hours so that you can understand what the different areas were used for and then you can explore freely to take photos and just soak it in.

Visiting two of the most impressive destinations in the world in one trip is an incredible opportunity. Using a good tour operator will save you tons of hassle. Their local knowledge will prove invaluable and make your experience truly special.
